Have I told you before? My dream is to be a writer. If you know me, you now might say, "But Nik — you've been a writer for more than 8 years!"
Technically, that's true. And yet, I feel like I've barely started! There is SO much more I want to write. Unfortunately, most of those things are unlikely to pay the bills.
Don't get me wrong. I love writing book summaries, curating books, putting together quote lists, and all the fun stuff I'm doing for Four Minute Books. On most days, I even love writing sales pages, emails, and all the other "necessary" stuff.
But I also love writing other things. I want to write essays, books, and fiction! I want to mesh a million ideas into a single 7-minute piece, make my heroine fly on the back of a dragon towards the ominous mountain in the sky, and release a whole series of actual "4-minute" books like The 4 Minute Millionaire.
If you gave me a boatload of money and nothing to do, I would probably spend all of my "working" hours doing just two things: Reading books and writing. But that's not reality, is it? So, back down on Earth, what can I do?
I call them "pockets of freedom." Instead of worrying about what I don't have the time and leisure to do, I just do what I can in what time I have! For example, for more than a year now, I have been writing a daily blog. It's not perfect, but it's fantastic. Every day, I get to nerd out a little, and who knows? Someday, maybe those posts will add up into a bigger chunk of my dream.
In fact, in some way, this has already happened. That's basically what my book 2-Minute Pep Talks is. After writing for around 8 years, I took all of my best 2-minute reads from the blog, Medium, and wherever else I'd written and made them better. I polished, curated, and rewrote, and after a few months — some time I could afford to spend — I had it: The first book that showcases my full creative range as a writer.
Now, all of this rambling about me simply serves as the setup to one question: What's your dream? What's something you really, most passionately want to accomplish in your brief time on this planet?
Because chances are, your dream, too, will come in small slices, not one fell swoop. You'll need to feed it from tiny pockets of freedom — perhaps over decades — before it can arrive in your life in full bloom.
That's what the book is for, by the way. 2-Minute Pep Talks. It's a tool to help you maintain the consistent inspiration you'll need to keep working on your dream against the odds.
Imagine you could begin every day fully believing you are ready to take on the world.
Imagine you'd never run out of grace, enthusiasm, and compassion.
Imagine refusing to quit — and tackling every day with the endless optimism most adults believe is reserved only for children.
Better yet, imagine summoning this attitude every single day in just 2 minutes. That's what 2-Minute Pep Talks is for.
Filled with 67 tiny but powerful jolts of inspiration, this book will help teach you...
Why our missteps are sometimes our best ones
How to work with your brain rather than against it
Why perseverance is more than just stubbornness
How to express yourself more honestly
Why you don't need more friends
How to stop flinching when the phone rings
What to do when you don't feel valued
...and a lot more! 2-Minute Pep Talks will help you maintain your inner balance in a shaky outside world. Every day, you'll receive a small dose of hope, love, and comfort, and as a result, you'll keep moving forward with inspiration and vigor.
I'm proud of this book, and I'm glad people love it. 30 5-star reviews so far! "I highly recommend this book. I knew it would be great and somehow my expectations were too low. It was outstanding," Aaron Miller said.
I hope the book will help you accomplish your dream as much as it helped me accomplish part of mine.
If you feel like sharing, hit reply and tell me about your dream. And if you want 67 days of additional "new-year-motivation," starting today, I'd love for you to check out 2-Minute Pep Talks.
