Alright, in today's edition, we'll cover:
Will by Will Smith (the autobiography of the world-famous rapper, actor, and Oscar winner/slapper)
After some 30+ years in showbiz, Will Smith finally wrote his autobiography, with some help from Mark Manson. The book details his story all the way from his humble beginnings in West Philadelphia to achieving fame as a musician and then global stardom as an actor. Despite his latest slap-up at the Oscars', Will is one of the most influential and inspiring people of our time — and the book has received rave reviews all over. Highly recommended.
In 2021, Oliver Burkeman took the book world by storm: Written by a recovering productivity addict, Four Thousand Weeks became an instant bestseller.
The book does away with our anxiety-driven approach to time management and suggests there are better, more human ways out there to manage our incredibly finite time on this planet.
If you live to be 80 years old, that's only 4,000 weeks. If you want to make the most of them, watch this video.
The Freebie
Ryan Holiday is one of my favorite writers of all time. He's also incredibly prolific. Next to 4 books about marketing, he's written 10 about Stoicism, making this ancient philosophy more accessible to mortals in the modern world. Last week, I compiled a full list of his books for you.
I've followed Ryan's work for almost a decade, and I've read The Daily Stoic* for 4 years in a row. If you do nothing else, please, get yourself a copy of that book.* It's one of the best books out there on living a better life, period.
With over 5 million copies sold, Ryan's work has stood the test of time. You could do a lot worse than pick one of his titles and make that your first read of the new year!
In this book, a happiness researcher shows you that at least 40% of happiness is within your control. She also helps you determine your "happiness set point," your baseline of happiness, if you will. Then, she shares lots of practical, science-backed strategies to become happier. A fun and enlightening read that will change the way you think.
Isn't it nice how, when you "turn on" a book, everything else just seems to automatically turn off?

It's been a long journey and a tough 12 months, which makes me all the more grateful that you're (still) on board. I want to make the site and newsletter better than ever next year, so I can't wait to see what 2023 will bring.
Regardless, I hope it will deliver a lot of joy and happiness to you. Happy New Year, and as always...
