13. Differentiate Backing and Archiving multimedia elements. 10 Marks
Ans: Archiving is similar to backing up of course, but serves a different purpose: backups are for your day-to-day work A backup is a copy of your data that is made to protect against loss of that data. Typically, backups are made on a regular basis according to a time schedule or when the original data changes. The original data is not deleted, but older backups are often deleted in favor of newer backups.
The goal of a backup is to make a copy of anything in current use that can’t afford to be lost. A backup of a desktop or mobile device might include just the user data so that a previous version of a file can be recovered if necessary. On these types of devices an assumption is often made that the OS and applications can easily be restored from original sources if necessary (and/or that restoring an OS to a new device could lead to significant corruption issues). In a virtual server environment, a backup could include .VMDK files that contain data and the OS as well as both structured (database) and unstructured data (files) so that the system can be put back into service as quickly as possible if something happens to the original VM in a VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtual machine environment.
An archive is a copy of data made for long-term storage and reference. The original data may or may not be deleted from the source system after the archive copy is made and stored, though it is common for the archive to be the only copy of the data.
In contrast to a backup whose purpose is to be able to return a computer or file system to a state it existed in previously, an archive can have multiple purposes. An archive can provide an individual or organization with a permanent record of important papers, legal documents, correspondence, and other matters. Often, an archive is used to meet information retention requirements for corporations and businesses. If a dispute or inquiry arises about a business practice, contract, financial transaction, or employee, the records pertaining to that subject can be obtained from the archive.
An archive is frequently used to ease the burden on faster and more frequently accessed data storage systems.

15. What is file compression? Why is it necessary to to compress files? And give two (2) main types of file compression. 10 Marks
Ans: file compression is a process to reduce the disk space to store that file
File compression enables data to be transferred quickly.
File compression reduces the amount of time on internet to upload or download a file.
Disk space needed on internet serves is reduced.
This allows the servers to store more files, information with less disk space.
Lossy: This compression type removes some information from the image and lowers the overall quality to reduce the file size.
Lossless: This compression type does not remove any information from the image, but it typically cannot reduce the file size as much as lossy compression.

17. What is the process to upload video on youtube? 15 Marks Ans:
1. Log in to your YouTube account.
2. Click on the video icon at the top right hand side of the window, which can be found next to your user icon, messages, apps, and notifications.
3. Click ‘Upload Video.’
4. Then, press ‘select files to upload’ to find the video file saved on your computer. Or, you can drag and drop it into the window.
5. An optional step is to choose the privacy settings on your video (but more on that below). If you choose to stop after this, you will technically have achieved what this article is all about. Namely, you video will now be on YouTube. That said, it will be lacking a proper description and tags, which are crucial if you want your content to be found by the community of viewers. Also, if you don’t change the name of your video, it will automatically be rocking the same file name as when you uploaded it from your computer. To avoid that (and to properly finalize the process), you’ll need to fill out the following sections:
6. Add an SEO friendly title so that it’s more easily discoverable via search engines.
7. Add a description of the video so people know what your content is about before watching it.
8. Add tags, which act as tools to help the discovery of your video.
